Our Vision...

Targeting Excellence's Vision:

To unite agribusinesses, production systems, and institutions of higher education in a common cause – to ensure the world’s food supply by providing scholarships for students committed to food animal agriculture.

A 2010 Ag Careers study reported that the in next 15 to 20 years, 77 million baby-boomers will retire with only 44 million generation-Xers to backfill their jobs.  Many of the retiring baby-boomers are the builders and leaders of food animal production programs as we know it today.  Our industry must be proactive, or there will be an unavoidable shortfall of qualified students interested in careers in food animal production.

Our Mission...

Targeting Excellence's Mission:  To sponsor events that bring together professional leaders of agricultural businesses, production systems, and institutions of higher education – with students – for the purpose of building personal relationships, exchanging ideas, and improving communications, while raising funds for scholarships.

The Scholarships:  Targeting Excellence scholarships will be supported by annual contribution and fund-raising events.  Scholarships awarded to student will reflect the interest of contributors and participants of the fund-raising events.

The Events:  Targeting Excellence events serve a purpose other than raising scholarship funds.  The events create an environment where students can learn more about career opportunities in food animal production and spend face-to-face time with leaders of our industry.   Attracting the brightest and most motivated students, allowing them to have face-to-face time with future employers, and allowing them to graduate without a heavy debt load will not only be good for the students, but will also make our future industry stronger.  More face-to-face time among the leaders of agribusiness, production systems and agricultural colleges can also lead to new alliances to ensure the survival of our industry.

The supporters of Targeting Excellence recognize that achieving success in life is not a solo act - it takes the emotional, physical, financial and sometimes spiritual support from a cast of others. Students need to know that there are successful people in our industry who are willing and able to be their supporting cast.

To accomplish this mission Targeting Excellence was incorporated in the state of North Carolina, received a 501(c) (3) status in March 2013 and is recognized by the IRS as a Public Charity (FEIN 46-1072291).   An official letter from the IRS is on file and is available upon request.
